Banjo

For those who seek to pierce the darkness and peer into the nightly self-isolation tactics being practiced within ULTRAsomething’s top secret lair, I present “Banjo” — a totally improvised, 7 minute, one-off exercise in meandering, mucilaginous and moody modular synth noodling.

Aren’t you glad your COVID-induced social distancing measures don’t include being quarantined with me?

I stole 50s to 65s as my new ringtone.

Normally I would tip for stuff like that. But my job has gone corona-bye-bye.

    /apologies.

Though I personally believe this implies you have impeccable taste, that’s definitely the sort of ringtone to guarantee your social distancing lasts longer than the outbreak.

    Egor,

I’m glad to hear you’re remaining creative for seven minutes at a time in your secret lair! Banjo is perfect for listening to while zoning out in the dark, waiting for aliens to arrive with virus-killing laser beams. It is exactly the kind of mucilaginous ear medicine one can swallow repeatedly without any side effects – that I know of. When will Banjo II be available?

Yes, I spend roughly 10 minutes/evening patching dozens of cables into various jacks, then another 5-10 minutes exploring the limits of achievable cacophony afforded by the patching. I’m not sure if this is helping me preserve my sanity, or if it’s a manifestation of having already lost it. But should I ever bother to punch the RECORD button again during some future evening improv, it will likely not be called “Banjo II.” Though “Bagpipes,” “Accordion,” and “Didgeridoo” are all possible contenders…
