The following list contains a very small sampling of the many songs written, recorded, performed and produced by grEGORy simpson over the last few years. Cick the song name to play it (be patient), or right-click to download.

Bartholomew Fair

Bartholomew Fair was a gothic “supergroup” formed by grEGORy simpson (the composer and instrumentalist behind Grace Darling) and Sonya Waters (the vocalist for alternative rock group, Orange).

01. Never Never No / The Well

Wordless vocals float over classic gothic instrumentation before giving way to a deeply personal and barren guitar and drone.

02. Hush

Powerful and emotional — this 1991 recording remains Mr. Simpson’s personal favorite of all his productions, past or present.

Grace Darling

C’est La Mort recording duo, Grace Darling consisted of composer and instrumentalist, grEGORy simpson, and vocalist Val Martino. They produced three albums in the early 90’s, scoring chart success on numerous college radio stations across the U.S. and Canada.

01. I Bury My Love

A gothic cult hit in 1991, thanks in part to its inclusion on Doctor Death’s Vol. 5 Hearts Lust in Limbo CD.

02. Teardrops

One of the four bittersweet romantic songs at the core of Grace Darling’s Invisible album.

03. Carousel

Angry, schizophrenic counterpoint to the romantic mood of other songs on Grace Darling’s Invisible album.

04. Victoria Knows

Another cult hit. This was included on 1992’s Doctor Death’s Vol. 6 Floribundus CD and is also one of the romantic songs forming the heart of Grace Darling’s Invisible album.

05. Standing Next to You

Another of the four bittersweet romantic songs at the core of Grace Darling’s Invisible album.

06. Walls

The last track ever recorded by Grace Darling, for their Invisible album.

07. Iemanja

This early Grace Darling song appeared on both the Sardonic Sounds and C’est La Mort Records releases. It’s a bit of a hybrid between the earlier, more ‘upbeat’ Grace Darling songs and the gentler songs that followed.

08. Transportation

In the early days, Grace Darling was struggling somewhat to find its sound. Transportation represents a direction that I ultimately rejected in favor of the ‘softer’ songs synonymous with the band. So, when it came time to release the C’est La Mort version of the first album, I cut this song from the playlist — and got a fair bit of hate mail because of it. Who knew people actually liked this stuff?

09. Bleed

This is another song I chose to cut from Grace Darling’s C’est La Mort release. Like Transportation, it didn’t fit with the new, more romantic Grace Darling sounds. I made it available for download to help placate those fans who were dismayed to see it removed from the second version of our first album.

The Veil Portends

The Veil Portends (a name chosen to pay subtle homage to the films of Jean Rollin) was formed by grEGORy simpson to create new music without regard for sonic boundaries or commercial success. It draws inspiration from imagined soundtracks, unwritten poetry, dreams and nightmares.

01. Tomitheus

Instrumental: inspired by Italian giallo soundtracks, but softened and modernized.

02. Tadpole

Instrumental: modern world beat combining synthetic and traditional elements.

Commissions

These are just a couple samples of “work for hire” music composed specifically to satisfy the requirements of various modern dance choreographers, web designers, videographers, and musical products companies.

01. Benign Schizophrenia

Written in 2007 to showcase Journeys — a new and respected sound bank that I created for Applied Acoustics’ String Studio Synthesizer.

02. Return to the Asylum

Written in 2010 to showcase the new Journeys sound library, re-programmed and re-imagined for the Tension instrument in Ableton Live.

03. play BeIA Internet Appliance Animation

Techno composition created for a Flash animation to introduce Be Incorporated’s new BeIA operating system (animation by Chris Sanders).
