grEGORy simpson
ULTRAsomething’s founder, grEGORy simpson, has been active in the arts from an early age. He was a successful synthesizer sound designer in the 80’s; a composer, producer, and musician with his bands, Grace Darling and Bartholomew Fair in the 90’s; and a working composer for film, dance, and the web throughout the decades.
ULTRAsomething’s digital recording environment features an extensive array of instruments, synthesizers, samplers, effects, and software applications. Mr. Simpson is experienced in composing and producing many styles of music, but his personal preferences lean toward the moody, cinematic, or avant-garde. A small collection of various songs can be heard here.
An important element in any song’s sonic soup is its orchestration and, as such, sound design has been a vital component in Mr. Simpson’s musical career. He started his first company, Sardonic Sounds, in 1986 for the purpose of creating and selling alternate sounds and patches for various synthesizers. Today, ULTRAsomething’s studio is stocked with many modern sound-design tools—both hardware and software—and it continues to provide sound design services for a variety of synthesizer developers. Still active in sound design, Mr. Simpson recently created the Journeys sound bank for Applied Acoustics’ String Studio modeling plugin. An interview with Mr. Simpson appeared on their website, and a number of favorable reviews ensued.
Today, grEGORy simpson can be found working behind a camera just as much as behind a musical keyboard — where his keen eye, technical savvy, impeccable professionalism and journalistic skills are satisfying clients with a wide range of photographic needs that include landscape, architecture, concert, event, corporate, and portrait photography.
